I guess I’ll be the first to start this thread off. I signed up for the basic plan with 700 MB RAM for 6 months. Took a bit of a chance cos I don’t know how good their connection and server performance is.

If you sign up from the forexreviewrated link here scroll to the bottom of the page where there is a discount code for 15% off which was supposed to be a summer offer. However, when I entered the code I still got the 15% discount. Great deal. It worked out to 12.75 per month for a 6 month subscription and you get 700 MB.

They say you get 10% of server CPU resources and no more than 12 VPS accounts on each 8 core server. That sounds pretty potent when many VPS’s will load up a server with more accounts than that.

What’s nice about this too is that you can buy RAM as an additional upgrade. $5 for an additional 256K of RAM. I clicked on the link and they indicated I’d get 300K of RAM…very good, they under promise and over deliver.

I just signed up for it last night and am still waiting for my account to be set up and the login details to be sent to me. But the buying experience and the site navigation has been pretty easy.

You’ll need to create an account and from that account your VPS account resides. This is such that you can have multiple VPS accounts under 1 billing account, also not a bad arrangement.

Hmm, really slow and sluggish performance. But that’s the remote desktop client. Will see how the EAs perform.

Cam are you running this with windows 2003 server 64 bit or 32 bit version?

64 bit. My Remote Desktop is lightening fast today… I wonder if it’s a loyalty thing or investment thing where they give better speed to bigger spenders and those locked in for a year?? Who knows.

  5. Ray says:

OK its speeded up. I realized after initial log in it takes about 10 mins for all the other extensions and services to start up. After that the speed is better.

They initially started me with a 32 bit windows 2003 but after I wrote into support they switched it fairly quickly to the 64 bit version. Their support doesn’t seem to reply much. Not as good as VPS Land but I have no major issues. Problems were minor and were all sorted out. For the price can’t be beat.

I like that they under promise and over deliver.

For basic account win server 2003 w/700 MB RAM account I was supposed to get 10% of CPU processing resources. When I looked at my CPU allocation I was getting 15%. You can choose to buy RAM upgrade, $5 for 256K extra RAM. When I clicked on that it showed 300 MB. So this is great. Pleasantly surprised on both counts.

With CAM’s link there’s a 15% discount at bottom of page. Enter that and they knock of 15%. It worked out to 12.75 a month with a 6 month renewal. Paying for a year will get you double RAM. This is the best VPS deal I’ve seen.

I was having some slow down in performance and restarts were taking unusually long. They transfered my VPS in full to another node and now its fast, super fast. REstarts are now around 1 min and 7 MT4s launch within a min of launching the server.

Very very pleased with the performance now.

Although I haven’t contacted their support like Ray, but it looks like Ray had a good and quick response each time.

My latest problem was yesterday when my machine crashed and I was not properly disconnected from VPS. From past experience with VPS’ I know that it is possible to have a second of your VPS running. Its weird, like the twilight zone. The trades are duplicated and you can’t figure why they are till you realize that sometimes you log into one and at other times another. Couldn’t figure how to shut down one session without having to reboot. They gave me the solution so all’s well. Plus I had a problem not being able to log on another occassion because of an IP address issue and they fixed that within the hr also.

So far its all good. I also pinged the fx pro server using their VPS…very fast response time. Here in Singapore I’m getting 300+ ms. Their speed was 72ms. That’s excellent.

I went ahead and paid the rest of the subscription for a year’s subscription. The added the bonus double RAM even before I paid the bill. Very good so far, they under promise, over deliver.

  10. Ray says:

When you pay for 1 year they double the ram from 700 MB to 1.4 GB.

Right now I’m running 11 MT4s and I’m just using 350 MB RAM (25%) and its using less than 2% of the CPU power.

I also got from them a solution to boot the VPS automatically and launch all the MT4s on a reboot. Usually what happens on a reboot is that VPS is up and running but not logged in. So even if you have your apps in the startup folder the don’t launch till you log in. With this it now auto logs in so if for any reason the VPS is restarted all the EAs will be restarted without you being around.

It leaves a mess when it does that though. I’m using a big screen at home and when it auto logs in all the MT4 screens are squished into a small screen equivalent so I have to do a lot of zooming and resizing but at least the most important thing is done. The MT4s and the EAs are running. I have to say that’s real peace of mind. Prior to this I would log in several times a day and check to see if everything is running. Now I know it is.

What I do is minimize all my MT4 Terminals so they sit in the task bar which you can shorten and lengthen depending on if you need to see the account numbers. Then you just open up the terminal you want to work on and minimize it again when finished. This keeps things clean and easy to manage.

BTW, Ray, I was in Singapore 2 weeks ago for a day while I was in transit… if I’d known we could have caught up ;-) Went to Santosa Island and up the top of Marina Bay Sands hotel… lovely place… but very HOT!

  11. Ray says:

    Hi Cam,

Yes was thinking the same thing. Could have caught up over coffee.

Yes in normal operation all the windows are minimized. But when you do an auto reboot of the VPS and if you’re not logged in, the VPS defaults to a smaller screen and all the windows remain open after launch scrunched up in the top left hand corner of the screen.

  12. Ray says:

Most VPS’ do not automatically log you in after a restart. When you restart the VPS your apps still remain unlaunched until you log in. The premium priced Forex VPS automatically logs in and they charge a premium for it. If you have shortcuts in the startup folder they will launch after you log in. This would be a problem if the VPS does a update or is rebooted for some reason while you’re away. This was a concern for me so I checked couple of things.

When SWVPS does an update patch it does it on Sat GMT time so no restarts during week…but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen for one reason or another.

If there is a restart and you’re not around to reboot, you can have the VPS automatically login and launch all the MT4s even if you’re not around to login.

    Got that from SWVPS support.

  14. Ray says:

    Hi Craig,

The WVPS-1 subscription is more than enough for 6 charts.

Just go straight for 1 year. You’ll get 2 months free and they double the RAM to 1.4 gigs. Look for the 15% off promo. The net cost after discounts is 12.75 a month, best deal in town.

I’m currently running 12 MT4s each with up to 4 charts loaded and running EAs. Memory usage is about 430 MB out of the 1.4 Gigs and it uses about 1.3% of the CPU capability so there’s still plenty of juice. Just for heck of it I launched about 21 MT4s and the memory still didn’t get to 50%.

If you’re running 6 charts you could literally have 1 chart loaded on 1 MT4. You can have multiple MT4s logged into the same account. Or load 2 or 3 charts per MT4.

Check that they give you the 64 bit version of windows 2003 server. When I started they defaulted me on a 32 bit version. I suspect the 32 bit version is more stable than the 64 bit but the 64 bit is running very well so go with that.

This is my 3rd VPS and I’m pretty happy with speed and performance. Its the cheapest and the best performing as of now.

What a wealth of info, thanks a lot man! Very interesting. As I read about you 12 charts with the RAM i started laughing because that’s quite amazing, just don’t know where you can find this discount? I’ve actually got the monthly subscription right now so i suPPOSE one HAS to get this yearly sub to qualify for discount right?
    Thanks man
By the way, you say you running 12 charts with EA’s, which brokers and EA’s and hows % profits doing?
At the moment I’m running fapturbo with Investtech, VERY profitable (I mean, the last few months I’ve been getting like between 30-50% LIVE, one month I got -2%…wippy), but DON’T even BOTHER with these idiots, although fap is very profitable with their feeds, you BATTLE to get your money out, i had to LITERALLY threaten them with bad comments on 100forexbrokers.com and THAT seemed to have scared them, i got init deposit AND profits out. It seems like if you scare them you could be lucky. but, i mean imagine having to keep writing bad comments everytime you wanna withdraw…joke lol
But thanks for great info man!

  16. Ray says:

    Hi Craig,

I just took a look at the setup, never counted the charts before. There are 12 MT4s running 32 charts.

If you right click on the task bar and then select task manager you’ll see the amount of RAM and CPU its using.

With this load on a 1.4 GB RAM VPS I’m running 436 MB of RAM. Theoretically even at the basic 700 MB of RAM you can run this load. I did that for a month before with no problem. I later contacted them saying I wanted to upgrade and pay for a year and they doubled the RAM. So even with the basic subscription of 700 MB you can run this load.

I have MD, pip laser, growth bot, F morning trade, F combo, EA shark 6 running and all profitable to varying degrees on fx pro. If you have problem getting your money out try fx pro, real easy to get cash back…unless you’re US based then something else.

    all best

    Cam,
i am subscribed to swvps plan-1 before 15 days, but i feel that vps working is so slow and i need to wait after clicking on mt4 to open for some seconds… is it due to ram? my initial ram is 700 mb, if i increase it to 1000 mb than issue is resolved or not? or i need to subscribe to their plan-2?
what is ur package?? plan-1 or 2? i wana run FGB on my vps… are they restart their vps during weekdays??

    Overall Not Rated
  19. Ray says:

Contact support and tell them that the VPS is unacceptably slow. Describe your problem. And test to see how long it takes to restart. Anything longer than 3 mins is too long.

Ask them to move you to a better node. After they did that it was very nice.

They usually don’t restart VPS during weekdays but it did happen last week with mine. I complained, they apologized and said that the node lost internet connection and they had to restart to regain the connection. But this is first time in couple of months since I started that it restarted during week.

  20. shahbaz says:

    Hi Ray,
thnx so much for support…. i will contact them and if the restarting occurs after couple of months than its no problem…..
another thing i wana ask is that is it necessary to restart manually ur vps once in a week for its better performance?? for keeping it active and fast??

    Overall Not Rated
  21. Ray says:

Not really necessary to restart if you’re running just a few EAs on a few MT4s and don’t disturb the VPS much. But if you did a lot of changes during week restarting and installing EAs and had a lot of activity it would be advisable to restart if you can. FGB doesn’t manage trades after a restart and in default mode will even close immediately any open trades on relaunch. You can change that to do nothing or notify you before closing trades. Its explained in manual.

    Ray,
another thing is that what is better and stable option?? 32bit vps or 64 bit? i have 32-bit windows in my home pc and also have 32-bit windows in vps…. does it really make any effect on performance or stability??

    Overall Not Rated
  23. Ray says:

It should be better in win 2003 server 32 bit. But I have the 64 bit version. They can simply change it to 64 bit for you but your container will be back to default and all your changes lost. 32 bit should be more compatible. But MT4 is compatible with 64 bit OS so no problem either way. Going to 64 bit might make it just a bit faster.

Is there some setting on this VPS where one can change so when you DO restart that it brings up all your programs and charts again instead of manually having to reloading them???

You can set the VPS to automatically login to your administrator account on restart.

    See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324737

Reas the security warning: machine should not be in place where people can casually access it or if you’re sharing it with other people they will have access to your password because it is saved on the machine. If this is a remote VPS it should be fine.

      Hi Feng,

I agree with Ray’s views. They are not 100% perfect, but I can’t really complain as I hardly (maybe once every 2-3 months) do a reboot and the support always gets back to me quickly. And I suspect I’m quite a heavy user.

I’m sure there are others out there who have had bad experiences and ended their contract after a few days/weeks/months then posted on Donna Forex, but overall my experiences have been good.

No I don’t. VPS seems very stable with no outages in past 2 months. Even the industry benchmark forexvps has had instances when it was down for a few hours. I did have 1 instance long ago where I could not connect to the VPS via remote desktop client but the VPS did not go down. 1 instance where it was really down for an hour or so but support found the problem and had it up and running quite quickly. But otherwise very good. Very fast reboot of less than 1 min. I started with 6 month subscription but upgraded to 1 year a week later. I’ll probably renew for another year with no reservations.
